What is Matchbook?+
Matchbook is a personalized shopping recommendation platform. You tell us about your wardrobe preferences, fit needs, style goals, and budget, and we recommend clothing that suits you — with a plain-language explanation for every pick.
Is Matchbook free to use?+
Yes. Building your style profile and browsing recommendations is free. Matchbook may earn a commission when you buy something through one of our links, at no extra cost to you — see our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
Do I need to create an account?+
No — Matchbook works fully without one. Your profile is saved in your browser. Creating a free account is optional and just lets you sync your profile across devices.
Where does my data live, and who can see it?+
Without an account, your profile stays in your own browser's local storage. If you create an account, it's also saved to a secure database and protected so only your signed-in account can read or change it. We never sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Does Matchbook sell clothing directly?+
No. Matchbook is a discovery and recommendation platform, not a retailer. We don’t hold inventory, dropship, or process payments — when you’re ready to buy, we send you to the retailer’s own site to complete your purchase.
How does Matchbook make money?+
Through affiliate partnerships. When you click through to a retailer and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a commission. This never affects how products are ranked — recommendations are based on your fit, style, and preference signals, not on who pays the most.
Do you use AI?+
Selectively. Much of Matchbook runs on transparent, rules-based logic that maps your plain-language answers to styling attributes. We reserve AI for tasks where it adds real value, and we cache results to avoid unnecessary AI calls. Read more on our Responsible AI page.
How does Style Scan handle my photos?+
Photos you upload for Style Scan are analyzed to generate your styling estimate and are not stored by Matchbook — they’re processed in memory and discarded. Only the qualitative result (an estimated color season and flattering styling notes) is saved to your profile. Style Scan is built to never report measurements, weight, or sizes.
What if a recommendation doesn’t work for me?+
Tap “Not for Me” on any recommendation. Matchbook records the attributes of that item and adjusts future recommendations to show you less of what doesn’t work for you.
Do you ask about my body type or gender?+
No. Matchbook never asks you to identify a gender. We ask which wardrobe(s) you tend to wear — feminine, masculine, or a mix — purely to help filter styles, and you can browse or shop any wardrobe at any time.
Which stores does Matchbook work with?+
We're in early development and are onboarding affiliate partners. The product examples shown on the site today are illustrative placeholders, not live retailer listings. As partnerships go live, real products from real retailers will appear in your recommendations.
Can I delete my data?+
Yes. Data in your browser is removed by clearing your browser storage or using the reset options in the app. If you have an account, email hello@buildmatchbook.com to have your account and its stored data deleted.
